Obituary: Susan Keaney

Susan Keaney, at 72
Susan L. (Turner) Keaney, age 72, died Nov. 23 at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Fla. 
Ms. Keaney was born in Weymouth to Arthur and Hilda (DeYoung) Turner. She was raised and educated in Hull and was a graduate of Hull High School. She lived for many years in West Bridgewater, Bridgewater, Marshfield, and Plymouth before moving to Weymouth, where she retired. She worked for 17 years at John Harland Co. and 12 years at Party Lite. 
Ms. Keaney was an avid beachgoer, venturing to the shores of Truro with loved ones. She enjoyed eating out, especially at her favorite Plymouth hot spots for lobster, and indulging her expertise in bargain-hunting at thrift stores. She embraced time with her grandchildren and loved sharing her own traditions with them during the holidays, especially her favorite baking recipes and dishes.
She was the beloved mother of Brian Keaney and his wife, Susan, of Bellingham; and Erica Catron and her husband, Roger, of Florida; and the cherished grandmother of Brenden, Aiden, and Landen Keaney of Bellingham and Turner Catron of Florida. She was the sister of Joyce Carey of Marshfield and the late Arthur Turner Jr. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Donald Coombs, with whom she spent many happy years. 
A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 1-3 p.m. at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home at 3 p.m.

Obituary: Warren P. Dow Jr.

Warren P. Dow Jr., at 83
Warren P. Dow Jr. of Hull, formerly of Reading and Boston’s Jamaica Plain, died Dec. 2. He was 83. 
Mr. Dow proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and went on to have a successful 30-year career with General Electric. He was an avid sports fan and loved the beach and being in the sunshine. He enjoyed having an active role in his grandchildren’s lives and could often be found at many of his granddaughter’s ice skating events. 
He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Barbara (Fiorillo) Dow of Hull; devoted father of Arthur Dow of Woburn, Debra Margosian and her husband, Phil, of Haverhill; and the late Michael W. Dow. He was the brother of the late Sister Pauline Marie, CSJ; cherished Pa to Ashley Romano and Domenic Dow. Mr. Dow also is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Obituary: Deborah Chute

Deborah Chute, at 64

Deborah (Burridge) Chute, 64, of Hull, formerly of Marshfield, died peacefully at home Nov. 28, after a 14-month battle with cancer. 
Born in Weymouth, she was the daughter of Mrs. Agnes “Burry” (Emerick) Burridge of Dedham and the late Frank Burridge. 
Mrs. Chute attended Marshfield High School and worked in several capacities throughout her life, but most enjoyed her work as a caregiver to young children. 
Mrs. Chute loved spending time with her husband and traveling. She enjoyed tending to her garden and had a special place in her heart for all animals. Above anything else, she adored the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife and best friend of Richard D. Chute, with whom she was together for 50 years and married for 34. Mrs. Chute also was the devoted mother of Richard A. Burridge and his wife, Stephanie, of Pembroke, Richard D. Chute, II and his wife, Haley, of Charlestown, and Joseph A. Burridge of Hull; and the cherished Nana of Lily Kate, Ava, Harrison, Madeline, and Charlotte, who were the true light of her life.
Loving sister of Michael Burridge and his wife, Jennifer, of Mashpee, Paul Burridge and his wife, Kerri, of Chelsea, Roger Burridge and his wife, Maria, of Yarmouthport, Douglas Burridge of Bourne, and the late David Burridge; sister in law of Mary Burridge of Humarock, Gail Landry and her husband, Joseph, of Natick, Wendy Haskell of New Hampshire, Pam Whitaker of Florida, and Bobby Chute of North Carolina; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her extended family in England.
Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 10 from 4-8 p.m. at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate. Funeral service on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 465 First Parish Rd., Scituate. 
Mrs. Chute’s family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to all of her caregivers in her final months, particularly her home caregiver, Maryann Weitz, and hospice nurse Janet Travers; and the physicians, nurses, and staff of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center who gave Mrs. Chute exceptional, respectful care and kept her family well informed and as prepared as they could be as her illness progressed.

Obituary: David J. Curtin III

David J. Curtin III, at 64
Hull resident David J. Curtin III died peacefully at home, following a brief illness, on Tuesday. He was 64.  
Born in Weymouth, and raised in Hingham, Mr. Curtin – called Zap by many – was a 1972 graduate of Hingham High School and was a self-employed plumber for many years.  He had a passion for riding his motorcycle, enjoyed traveling, trying new foods, football, and jet skiing. He was an expert on old movies, and could name the actors and actresses in any title you threw at him.  He was a very hard worker, and loved animals of all kinds, especially his own canine companions – Jack, Dakota, Roxie, and Tank.  
The greatest joys in his life came from time spent with his family and friends.  The beloved husband of 20 years of Sarah T. (Gilbert) Curtin; he was the son of the late David J. Curtin Jr. (Hingham PD) and Dorothy P. (Conti); the loving brother of Mark J. Curtin of Weymouth; devoted uncle of Shannan Hughes and her husband, Chris, and Mark Curtin Jr. and his fiancée, Kate. Mr. Curtin also leaves many friends.

John F. McElhinney Jr., of Hull, formerly of Mission Hill, died peacefully Nov. 25. He was 89.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was the husband of the late Helena Leonard McElhinney. Mr. McElhinney is survived by his daughters: Helena Silva and her husband, John, of Hull, Patricia Collins and her husband, Tim, of Hingham, Eileen Lynch and her husband, Ron, of Hull; and his sons: John F. McElhinney III of Florida, Thomas McElhinney of Boston, and Stephen McElhinney and his wife, Collette, of Cohasset. He also leaves his grandchildren: John A. Silva of Hull, Michael Silva and his wife, Reagan, of Louisiana, Kevin Silva and his wife, Kerrin, of Abington, Kathryn Collins of Boston, Colleen Collins of Hingham, Ryan McElhinney, Erin McElhinney, and Sean McElhinney of Cohasset, Helena Lynch and Patrick Lynch, of Hull; three great grandchildren; and many extended family members. Mr. McElhinney was predeceased by his siblings: Daniel McElhinney, Betty Cahill, and Mary Glynn.

Nunziato Minasi, at 80
Nunziato “Nunzio” Minasi died Sunday at the South Shore Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 80.
Born in Calabria, Italy, Mr. Minasi emigrated to the United States in 1970 and was a laborer with Local 133 for many years. He enjoyed gardening, winemaking, foraging for mushrooms, and playing cards. The greatest joys in his life came from time spent with his family and friends. 
The beloved husband for 48 years of Nunziata ”Nancy” (Fazzolari) Minasi; he was the devoted father of Frank Minasi and his wife, Carol, of Hanover, and Rocco Minasi and his wife, Lori, of Holbrook. The loving grandfather of Andriana, Natalie, Nunzio, Rocco, Juliana, Abigail, and Sophia Minasi; he was the brother of Lina Fazzolari of Somerville, Vincenzina Deserto of New York, Pasquale and Rosa Minasi of Italy, and the late Nicola and Pina Minasi. Mr. Minasi also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ita B. (Power) Leonard, of Hull, died at home Nov. 25, surrounded by her loving family. She was 89. 
Mrs. Leonard was born and raised in St. Kevin’s Parish in Dorchester. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and would celebrate St. Patrick’s Day annually at her home, affectionately known as the “Irish Riviera.” 
For more than 55 years, she was a daily communicant at St. Ann’s Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She loved to sing, knit, and crochet. Most of all, she cherished spending time with family and friends. 
Wife of the late Robert J. Leonard, she was the loving mother of Robert J. Leonard II and his wife, Anne, of Middleborough; Kevin P. Leonard and his wife, Elizabeth, of Weymouth; Dennis P. Leonard and his wife, Maureen, of Whitman; Timothy W. Leonard and his wife, AnnMarie, of Braintree; Colleen T. Larsen and her husband, Mike, of Hull; Ita M. Leonard of Hull; Patrice A. Kenney and her husband, Thomas, of Hull; Colin P. Leonard and his wife, Patricia, of Whitman; and the late Terence M. Leonard. 
She was the sister of the late John Power and the cherished Nana of 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Leonard also is survived by many dear friends.

Linda M. Foley, at 67
Linda M. (Gold) Foley, 67, died unexpectedly Monday. A former resident of Hull and Pembroke, Mrs. Foley recently retired to Naples, Fla., where she made many wonderful new friends and greatly enjoyed her time there.
She was the beloved wife and best friend of the late James F. Foley; her family is finding comfort knowing that Linda and Jim are once again together in heaven.
Mrs. Foley is survived by her loving daughters, Terri Foley, of Hanover; and Tracey (Foley) Donohue and her husband, Dan, of Norwell. 
Mrs. Foley was the sister of Charles Gold and his wife, Maureen, of Marco Island, Fla., and the late Sandra (Gold) Munn and her husband, Robert, of Hull. Mrs. Munn died in September. Linda and Sandra were more than just sisters, they were best friends. 
Mrs. Foley’s greatest pride and joy were her granddaughters, Julia and Elise Groppi, of Pembroke, and Maggie and Chloe Donohue, of Norwell. She was a one-of-a-kind, extraordinary Gramma and will be greatly missed by her girls. Mrs. Foley is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Anna M. (Lizio) Kelley, of Hull, died Nov. 18; she was 96. 
Mrs. Kelley lived in Hull for many years. She enjoyed bingo and was a longtime member of the Women’s League in Hull. She was devoted to her family and cherished the time she spent with each family member. They are all very grateful for her long life and all the blessings she brought into their lives. She will be sadly missed.

Sarah Sullivan, at 63
Sarah (Driscoll) Sullivan of Hull died at South Shore Hospital on Saturday. She was 63. 
Ms. Sullivan was born in Quincy, the daughter of the late Vaughn and Sarah (Prisinzano) Driscoll. She loved horses and her Boston sports teams. She took pride in her work at the River Bay Club, where she managed the dining room for several years. 
She is survived by her loving fiancé, Mark Curtis of Hull; her daughter Kerri Patel and her husband, Hunter, of Hull; and her daughter Kelli Bennett-Hubbard of Middleboro. Ms. Sullivan was the sister of Stephen Driscoll and his spouse, Robert Tocci, of Pembroke, Elaine Welby of Florida, Anna Holden of Florida, Marie Smith of New Hampshire, and Vaughn and Rochelle Driscoll of Quincy; grandmother of Aisha Ervin and her partner, James Pardi, of Stoneham, and Tiara Ervin of Middleboro. Ms. Sullivan is also survived by two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary: DeWitt C. Parsons

DeWitt C. Parsons, at 88
DeWitt C. Parsons, a Hull resident for many years, died Oct. 25. He was 88.
Born in Battle Creek, Mich., the only child of DeWitt and Dorothy Parsons, he attended Lakeview High School, where he played in three state tennis finals in three years and was considered the best tennis player in the state of Michigan. After graduating from Michigan State University, he promptly departed for the Korean War in which he served as the navigator on a destroyer in the Pacific theater. 
Mr. Parsons took a job with Kellogg’s, moved to Maryland, then to Needham. He enjoyed tennis, golf, basketball, table tennis, and card games, any card game. He met Kathy Galvin, and they formed Southern Sales, a food distributorship. They also worked on cruise ships, teaching bridge and officiating over tournaments, and they directed bridge games at various restaurants in Hingham and Hull. They had many excellent adventures and made quite a team over the past 25 years. 
Mr. Parsons was a man who loved to laugh and have a good time and enjoyed spending time in Florida and Hull.

Obituary: Joseph F. Foley

Joseph F. Foley, at 56
Joseph F. Foley, age 56, died unexpectedly at his home on Nov. 6. 
Mr. Foley was born in Boston and grew up in Weymouth. He lived in Hull before returning to Weymouth in 2009. 
Mr. Foley was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Hull for many years, and many Hull residents will remember him for his cheerful service. He loved gardening and music and playing his guitar. He also was a history buff.
He was the dear father of William Foley and Arianna Foley, both of Hull; beloved twin brother of John Foley, of Weymouth; and brother of Elizabeth Iudice and her husband, Joseph, of Portsmouth, N.H., and Margaret, Mary, and William Foley, all of Weymouth. He was the beloved son of the late William and Mary (Hynes) Foley and the former husband of Karyn (Stauss) Foley. Mr. Foley also is survived by several nephews and nieces, many cousins, and an aunt and an uncle.

Obituary: Maryann F. Elisii

Maryann F. Elisii, at 77
Maryann F. (DiLoreto) Elisii, of Quincy and formerly of Hull, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Nov. 10. She was 77. 
Born in Everett, she was raised on the North Shore and in Hull, the daughter of the late Settimio and Frances (Cerasola) DiLoreto.
Mrs. Elisii came from a large Italian family with several cousins her same age and enjoyed many happy parties and holidays with them and created the same in her own household. She was a great Italian cook and housewife to her husband of many years and a caring mother to her two girls. She took immaculate care of her house and herself, always exercising, dancing, or jogging around the house. She dressed fashionably – always with sparkle – and enjoyed her beautiful jewelry and impeccable makeup.
She loved listening to music. Her favorite radio station was the Kiss 108, which was always on in the background, especially the “Matty in the Morning” show. She enjoyed walks along the water and spent a lot of time tanning and bathing at Nantasket Beach.
After her family was grown, she worked in the cosmetic sales industry for Jordan Marsh and Filene’s; she retired from Macy’s after 30 years of service. She worked very hard for those companies, earning highest-sales rewards, and her family benefited from her employee discount when they shopped.
She became a woman of great faith and prayed the rosary daily for all her friends and family. After managing diabetes for more than 50 years, she became disabled before her time but used her strong Catholic faith to persevere until the end.
Mrs. Elisii raised her children with strong morals, which continue through her grandchildren. She was the devoted mother of Marguerite Elisii-Johnson, spouse of Mark Johnson, of Hull; and Marietta Troup, spouse of Brooks Troup, of Middletown, Md. She was the loving grandmother of Joseph Elisii-Johnson, of Hull; Corbin Troup, spouse of Jasmine of Pennsylvania; and Ayla and Vincent A. Troup, both of Maryland. She had a younger brother, Philip “Skippy” Watson, of East Boston, and is the former wife of Joseph V. Elisii, of Hull, and Jack Kane, of Florida.

Robert L. Callaway, at 88
Robert L. Callaway, of Weymouth, 88, died Nov. 12. Originally from Dorchester, Mr. Callaway lived in South Weymouth for 60 years and summered in Hull. 
He graduated from Northeastern University with an MBA and a bachelor’s in civil engineering and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a captain and forward observer. He retired as an executive vice president of operations at Computervision. 
He had a love for the ocean, boats, sailing, and gardening. Family was the foundation of all that was important to Mr. Callaway. Beloved husband of 60 years to the late Janet (Heaver) Callaway; he was the devoted father of Susan Pratt, Anne Marie Ohlson, and Barbara Vasile and her husband, Albert. Mr. Callaway was the cherished Grand Bob of Stephen Pratt and his wife Anne, Michael Pratt, Eric Ohlson and Michelle Ohlson; Great-grand Bob of Madeline and George Pratt; loving brother of the late Eunice Flagg and her husband, Charlie. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews. 
The family thanks the staff at Queen Anne Nursing Home, Grove Manor Assisted Living, and South Shore Hospital for their compassionate care.

Obituary: Irma L. Fay

Irma L. Fay, at 83
Irma L. (Estes) Fay, of Florida and formerly of Hull, died peacefully on Sept. 12 at the age of 83, after a short illness. 
Born and raised in Tennessee, she is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Gerard “Jerry” J. Fay of Englewood, Fla. 
Irma and Jerry retired to Florida in 2003. She blossomed in the sunshine, enjoying gardening, bicycle adventures, working on her puzzles, baking, and family visits. She loved everything life had to offer with enthusiasm. 
Recently celebrating their 46th wedding anniversary, the couple shared an inspirational true lifelong love story. They were rarely apart. Jerry affectionately called Irma Lee his “Honey Bee,” and she was especially known for her amazing culinary abilities and recipes. They were the former owners of Fay’s Gourmet Restaurant in Hull for years, where she was the acclaimed Gourmet Chef, listed in Boston Magazine as “Best of South Shore.” 
Mrs. Fay also was the cherished aunt of Janet Fay Johnson, of Hull; Emily “Lee” and Tracey Fay, of Quincy; Wendel Plumbo and her husband Gerry, of Parrish, Fla.; and Clydette Ray and her husband David of Seymour, Tenn. She was the special grand-aunt of Mark Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Christopher and Catherine McCurdy, and Brandon Clevenger and great-grand-aunt of Brodie Clevenger. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Wrye and Betty Cooper; her parents, Hattie and Lonnie Estes; and her nephew, Randy Cooper.
Mrs. Fay was a blessing, honored and cherished by all who knew her. Her humor, positive attitude, kindness, style, beauty (inside and out) as well as her Southern charm will be deeply missed. She made everyone feel like family, loved and special.
An Intention Mass will be celebrated for Mrs. Fay on Saturday, Nov. 10, at St. Ann’s Church in Hull at 9 a.m. Burial will be private.

Obituary: Paula K. Norton

Paula K. Norton, at 67
Paula Kay (Maxim) Norton, 67, formerly of Hull, died unexpectedly at her Chestertown, Md., home on Sunday, Nov. 4.
She was born in Kansas City, the daughter of the late Mitchell and Mary Kathleen Elliott Maxim. The family moved to Hull, and Mrs. Norton graduated from Hull High School in 1969.
She went on to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, majoring in English and graduating magna cum laude in 1973. She worked as a teacher, advertising consultant, and freelance writer until she devoted her life to being a mother. She loved gardening, reading, Bible study, her dog, Jessie, and her Christian faith. 
She leaves two sons, Scott Norton, of Stevensville, Md., and Matthew Norton and his wife Meghan and their children, Penelope, William, and Edward, all of Barrington, Ill. In addition, she leaves her sister, Renee Fowler of Bradenton, Fla.; her brother, Craig Maxim, of Whitinsville; and the father of her children, James Norton, of Hull. She was predeceased by a brother, Rick Maxim.

Michael W. Benjamin, at 31
Michael Weldon Benjamin, 31, died unexpectedly Oct. 17. He was born in California and raised in Hull, where he resided with his family until his death.  
Many will remember him for his love of life and the energy he spread to those around him. From a young age, he loved sports, excelling at football, basketball, and baseball through Hull youth sports programs and into Hull High School. After high school, he went on to the Peterson Trade School, where he jumpstarted his career in HVAC, working as a service tech for New England Cooling Towers, followed by management of multiple HVAC teams. Being the motivated entrepreneur he was, he then created his own company, Benjamin Air. 
Beyond his career, he will be remembered for his heart and his fearless personality. He was a courageous man and would stand behind his family through anything that became an obstacle. He had a humor that would strike even the most apprehensive and an infectious laugh that made for lighter days. He brought comfort to those close to him through his empathetic nature and deep understanding of life itself. He was a humble man and appreciated the simplicity of life. He found happiness in the day just surrounded by his loving wife and beautiful children. 
And while the greater plan for Michael is quite hard to understand right now, he will always be remembered in their hearts. He will be felt in the moments where they know he should still be here. He will be the inner strength to his wife, still standing by his side as her life goes on. And most of all, he will live on as a protector to his family, a guardian angel to his children through their walks of life. 
Mr. Benjamin leaves his wife, Kristen Benjamin, and two children, Paisley Lane and Logan Weldon; his parents, Renne Benjamin and Peter Benjamin, and his step-parents, Mark Doherty and Karen Benjamin, as well as his in-laws: Mary Calandrella, John Daughtry, Steven Calandrella, and Tammy Calandrella. 
The brother of Sara Benjamin and the late Elizabeth Benjamin, he was the step-brother of Esme Herrmann and Michael Herrmann; and the brother-in-law of Lauren, Sarah, and Kim Calandrella. Survivors also include his grandparents, Weldon P. and Katherine M. Benjamin, and many extended family members. Mr. Benjamin also leaves behind many lifelong friends, who will miss him dearly.
His memorial service will be held in mid-November; the date cannot be ascertained yet because his three-year-old daughter Paisley must complete a minimum of 30 days in hospital care at Tufts Medical Center for leukemia that was diagnosed in October.

Kevin M. Long, at 37
Kevin “Vern” M. Long, of Wareham and formerly of Weymouth, died Oct. 27 at the age of 37. 
Mr. Long was a sheet-metal worker and proud union member of Local 17. 
He was the loving son of Joanne T. Long of Wareham and Richard Long Sr. and his wife, Beatrice, of Hull; loving brother of Kathleen Long and her partner, Charlie Ward, of South Weymouth, Richard Long Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Bridgewater, Thomas Long and his wife, Tammy, of Abington, Eddie Long and his wife, Taryn, of Weymouth, and David Long of Wareham. 
Mr. Long also is lovingly survived by six nieces and nephews and his cherished dog, Miley. 
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, from 4-8 p.m., in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home at 809 Main St., South Weymouth. 
A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Obituary: Wallace J. Rodgerson

Wallace J. Rodgerson, at 96
Wallace “Buck” James Rodgerson, of Weymouth, Hobe Sound, Fla., and Hull died Oct. 21 in Hingham. He was 96.
From 1942 to 1945, Mr. Rodgerson served in the Navy during World War II. He then operated and owned two restaurants, Buck and Bill’s Railroad Cafe and the Twin Oaks in Weymouth, until the 1970s. He subsequently turned his career toward the real estate industry as the owner of Alltech Realty, until he retired in 2016 at the age of 94. 
He was the loving husband of the late Martha Jacobs Rodgerson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Rodgerson; his sons, Stephen Rodgerson and Gary Rodgerson; and his daughter, Julie Rodgerson. He will be missed by his surviving brother, Robert Rodgerson; his son, James Rodgerson; and his daughter, Susan Rodgerson, with whom he lived. He also leaves grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends. Services will be private.

Stephen T. Shea, at 68
Stephen Timothy Shea, of Cocoa, Fla., died Oct. 22 at age 68. He was born in Boston and lived in both Hyde Park and Hull. 
Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife, Cynthia Shea; daughter, Jacqueline Shea; and sister, Florence Driscoll. He also was the loving brother-in-law and uncle to many.
