Gamblers Anonymous. Do you think you have a problem with compulsive gambling, or want to learn more about how to stop gambling? Gamblers Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other to help solve this common problem and help others to recover from a gambling problem. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop gambling. There are no dues or fees for Gamblers Anonymous membership, and the group is not allied with any religion or political organization. Great River Race. Celebrate the 36th year of the Great River Race on the beautiful North River. The race starts at 9 a.m. at Bridge Street Canoe Launch in Norwell and ends at Indian Head Drive in Hanover. All ages welcome. (Participants age 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult). Any type of non-motorized watercraft is eligible to enter the race – even stand-up paddle boards! There is also the Best Decorated Boat or Boater division for the creative paddler. This year’s Great River Race is $55 for the first participant per craft if preregistered by Thursday, August 6 at noon. After that, late registration will be $75 for the first participant per craft. Satuit Band Summer Concert Series 7:30 p.m. at the Bernie King Pavilion. The Satuit Band celebrates its 95th season this summer performing its annual series of free community concerts throughout the South Shore. St. Mary of the Assumption Festival. Our Lady of the Assumption Parish at St. Ann’s Church on Samoset Avenue will be holding its annual festival in honor of the parish namesake. Starting at the A Street Pier at 9:30 a.m., marchers will welcome the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary arriving by boat and proceed up A Street to the church for the 10 a.m. Mass. Balance and Conditioning. The senior center is offering balance and conditioning classes. Each session consists of strength and conditioning exercises, stretches, and various balance drills designed to increase balance, strength, and flexibility. The stretching and strengthening exercises are focused on key muscles and joints to improve range of motion, strength, stability, awareness, and reaction time to prevent falls from poor balance.
