Obituary: Raffaele Contrado

Raffaele Contrado, at 91 
Raffaele J. Contrado, who was known as “Lefty” or “Fred,” died Jan. 21 at age 91.
Mr. Contrado proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a professional boxer and was left-handed, which is where his nickname came from. He was a very active member of the Saint Anthony’s Society and the VFW in the North End. 
Mr. Contrado adored his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed old Western movies, John Wayne, big band music, and cooking. He was a warm and loyal man who was hard-working, strong, and dependable.
He was the beloved husband of the late Carmella (Procopio) Contrado and the loving father of the late Ralph Contrado and his surviving wife, Tammy, of Hull; Stephen Contrado, of Hull; and Sheila Crosby, of Winthrop. He was the cherished brother of Antoinette “Penny” LaFrazia and her late husband, Frank, of the North End; Pasquale “Pat” Contrado and his wife, Amy, of Florida; Frank Contrado and his wife, Kathy, of the North End; and the late Fiore “Peanuts” Contrado and his wife, Mary, and Philomena Marachiello and her husband, Salvitore “Sammy.” 
He was the loving “Nono” of John, Dereck, and April Contrado; Estelle Lincoln; and Erin, Kelly, Skye, and the late Jamie Olson; and great-grandfather of Dylan and Billy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, 4-8 p.m., at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. A funeral home service will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hull Village Cemetery.
