Obituary: Carolyn Sachs

Carolyn Sachs, at 84
Carolyn (MacQuesten) Sachs of Scituate, formerly a longtime Hull resident, died surrounded by her family on Dec. 8. She was 84.
Mrs. Sachs grew up in North Chelmsford, the third of four siblings and the first to be born in a hospital. She earned her nursing degree and moved to Boston, where she lived on Commonwealth Avenue while working at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in the infectious disease unit. She worked at several hospitals, in the maternity wards and geriatrics.
Mrs. Sachs was a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were young. She was a member of the Hull Historical Society and was instrumental in the archaeological dig at Fort Revere and the subsequent dedication and ceremony with the ambassador to France. She enjoyed gardening and was a longtime member of the Hull Garden Club, where she made many friends. She also volunteered at Wellspring for many years and loved finding a bargain. She was a diehard Red Sox fan, and we’re all so glad she lived to see them win.
She leaves her two daughters, Tobe Sachs, and her husband, Mark Vafides, of Hull; Jennifer Rowe and her husband, Ron, of Lubbock, Texas; and six grandchildren, all of whom will miss Oma and Grammy dearly.
Services will be held in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to Wellspring, 814 Nantasket Ave., Hull, MA 02045
