Obituary: Jack McDonald
/Jack McDonald, at 84
Jack McDonald passed away on October 16, 2026 in Austin, Texas, where he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandson during the winter months.
Jack grew up in Hull and always held a deep love for the town he was so proud to call home. After serving in the U.S. Army, Jack worked for many years as a union carpenter, eventually serving as vice president of Carpenters Local #67 in Dorchester. He later pursued a new path in land development and custom homebuilding, focusing primarily on Scituate, where he made his home for 25 years.
When it was time to retire, Jack returned to Hull, renewing the many friendships he had cherished as a younger man. During retirement, he pursued his interests in sailing and classic wooden sailboats that were sparked during his many visits to Maine. He experienced off-the-beaten-path Caribbean travel and enjoyed a vacation home in Mexico, where he had the opportunity to explore a whole new culture. In later years, his best days were spent in Hull walking on the beach, baking artisanal breads, and tending his vegetable garden.
Jack is survived by his wife, Judy, and their two children, Kevin Porter and Kate Bludworth, and by Kate’s husband, Hunter. He also is survived by his beloved grandson, Jack Bludworth. He was predeceased by his brothers Donald “Stan” McDonald and Dan McDonald, and his sisters Kathleen Nash and Marylou Walsh. He leaves his sister, Dorothea Rogers of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Joanne McDonald of Rotonda West, Florida, as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends.
A gathering celebrating Jack’s life will be held in Hull in early summer 2027.
