Obituary: John Meschino
/John Meschino, at 88
John Meschino passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. He was 88 years old.
Born on June 23, 1937, in Cranston, Rhode Island, John lived most of his life in Hull. He graduated from Boston University, with both undergraduate and master’s degrees.
John was a first-generation Italian American. He lived his life guided by the words of his beloved mother, Christina Meschino: “You’ll never get lost because you can read American.” Following this wisdom, John had a career as an educator, coach, and athletic director. Much of his career was spent at Holbrook High School.
John was an athlete at heart. He was a Rhode Island state champion in wrestling, played football for Boston University and professional football for the Providence Steamrollers.
An outdoorsman, John loved the ocean and was a legendary lobsterman in Boston Harbor. He was the captain of his own boat, the “Triple J-BE,” which he named after his wife and children.
John married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Meschino, in 1963. It was love at first sight when Barbara walked into the Ratskeller in Boston, where John worked during college. John and Barbara recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Together, Barbara and John raised four children: Joan, Jill, John, and Eric. As her soulmate, John passed away four days after Barbara.
There was nothing John loved more than to be surrounded by his wife and family, especially when enjoying a home-cooked meal.
John is survived by his four children: Joan Meschino (John Harre), Jill Marie Meschino (Dillon Remler), John Joseph Meschino (Amy Parkes Meschino) and Eric John Meschino (Jessica Mitchell Meschino). John was affectionately called “Papa” by his five adoring grandchildren: Kathryn Rose Meschino, Lillian Amrhein Remler, Joseph Francis Meschino, Emma Joan Meschino, and Robert John Meschino. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
The youngest of 10 children, John was predeceased by his beloved parents, Tomasso and Christina Meschino, and nine siblings: Pasquale “Pat,” Salvatore “Stutz,” Antonio “Ben,” Luigi “Louie,” Mary, Thomas, George, Gilda, and Luciano “Jack.”
A joint wake for both Barbara and John Meschino will be held on Monday, February 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home in Hingham. A joint funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hull. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Hull Lifesaving Museum, PO Box 221, 1117 Nantasket Avenue, Hull, MA 02045.
