Obituary: Sarah Ann Coffey

Sarah Ann Coffey, at 87

Sarah Ann (Ruppel) Coffey, 87, died August 2, 2025, at home in Plymouth, N.H. To those who loved her, she was best known as Sally, Mum, and Grandma.

Sally was born on February 15, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Isobel. She attended Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio and graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Chestnut Hill.

Mrs. Coffey was the wife of Frederick Paul Coffey, Jr. They were married on October 27, 1962, in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Sally and Fred initially raised their family in Hingham. It was while living here that her love of sailing developed. She was a member of the Hingham Yacht Club.

In 1981, Mr. and Mrs. Coffey moved their family to Fort Myers to begin a new business venture. They started Coffey Yacht Charters at Burnt Store Marina on Charlotte Harbor. Many happy years were spent on the water. Mrs. Coffey sold the business after her husband’s death. She then went on to have a successful career in real estate and as an antique dealer.

She later moved back to New England where she resided in Falmouth and Hull, and most recently, Plymouth, N.H.

Of most importance to Mrs. Coffey was her family. She was preceded in death by her children, Mary, Freddie, and Kevin, and is survived by her daughters Susan, Margaret (Yoder), Moira, Karen (Johnson), and her son, Michael. She also is survived by her granddaughters Caitlyn, Erin and Hana Coffey, grandsons Patrick and Joseph Coffey, Brett and Troy Yoder, Brennan, Connor, Nolan, and Logan Johnson, great-grandson Dale Perkins, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, at the Resurrection of the Lord Parish in Hingham. A private family burial will take place following the mass at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.

The family will host a memorial reception later that evening at the Sandbar, 297 Nantasket Avenue, at 5 p.m.
