The Barrett family, formerly of Hull, sadly announces the passing of their beloved mother, Madeline A. (Gould) Barrett of Venice, Florida, on October 10, 2026 at the age of 96.
Madeline (Maddy) was born and raised in Hull and was married to her grade-school sweetheart, Harold N. Barrett, who predeceased her.
Madeline is survived by her three children: Linda M. Parent and her husband, Edward, of Port Charlotte, Florida; Michael Barrett of Hingham; and Joanne Bolla of Niantic, Connecticut; as well as her sister, Jeannie Chaupetta of Plymouth and her brother Chester (Chet) Gould of The Villages in Ocala, Florida.
Madeline also had three sisters who predeceased her: Gertrude “Gertie” Hirsch, Edna McDuff, and Barbara Haye.
Maddy leaves behind four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many extended family members.
Maddy loved living in Hull in her family home on Kenberma Street. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch and taking long walks on Nantasket Beach. Her cherished memories of the town include watching her kids learn to sail and creating lifelong lessons and friendships as members of the Hull Yacht Club.
Maddy was both a server and bartender at many local dining establishments for many years, including Helen and Larry’s in Hingham and both Lokie’s and With Richard at West Corner.
Madeline moved to Florida with her husband in 1984 and became the manager of the Woolworth’s Lunch Counter in Cocoa Florida, a position she was very proud of and held for many years before her retirement.
Maddy brought joy and a sense of humor to everyone she touched and will be deeply missed and be kept forever in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life and interment in the Hull cemetery will be held on June 3, 2027.
