Caitlyn Mayfair

Caitlyn Althea Mayfair of Hull passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025. She is survived by her siblings, Elbert, Ruth, and Gail, and by her adopted family, the Kanets. She was predeceased by her sister Posie and her beloved cats.

Born in West Virginia, she joined the Sisters of Mercy convent before earning a BA from Catholic University and two master’s degrees at the University of Michigan in medical surgical nursing and public health. She went on to help start the MA program in public health at UConn. She worked for the National League of Nursing and as a national consultant for public health nursing.

Ms. Mayfair was a very spiritual person and was trained in massage and energy healing. She also loved the holidays, especially Christmas and Chanukkah, and would make personal, hand-designed gifts for her loved ones.

Later in life, she took up photography and sold her art at local fairs. She was an avid card player, teaching her adopted grandchildren games like casino and rummy. She also loved going out to eat, especially for a good steak.

Those who knew her will remember her as a generous and loving person with a strong moral compass. She loved life and followed her bliss. Thank you for everything, Caitlyn. We love you.

There will be a memorial at 170 Samoset Avenue on Sunday, August 31 at 10 a.m.
